Personal Development

At Yohden Primary School, we aim to prepare our children for a future with aspirations and a range of possibilities. We offer a bespoke curriculum to be inclusive to all and to broaden links with our community. We wish for our pupils to gain values of respect and gain the confidence to be resilient, happy individuals that will make a difference.   

Personal development at Yohden Primary supports and underpins the vision and ethos of the school.  


We teach personal development in a wide range of ways through our Curriculum and extra curricula learning.   

Specific Curriculum areas: 

  • PSHE – Personal Social Health Education (including careers, anti-bullying, and metal health and wellbeing) 
  • RSE – Relationships and Sex Education (taught as part of our PSHE Curriculum) 
  • Computing – each unit of learning starts with an e-safety lesson. 
  • RE – Religious Education, learning about different religions 
  • PE – Physical Education and being healthy 
  • MFL – French – including learning about the culture of another country.  
  • Cross curricula links in other subject areas e.g history and geography. 
  • Debates in lessons and weekly What’s in the News Assembly 


  • SMSC – spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. 
  • British Values – democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs, and for those without faith. 
  • Protected characteristics – age, gender, race, disability, religion or belief and sexual orientation.  
  • Zones of Regulation (weekly lessons and interventions)– how we support children to understand their emotions and actions.  
  • Keys to success: Ambitious, Resilient, Kind, Independent, Respectful and Positive.  
  • Assemblies (Singing, What’s in the News, Father Mc Neil, Zones of Regulation, Celebration and Opal,  
  • Afterschool Clubs  
  • Sports Competitions and healthy competition within school.  
  • School trips and visits (including residentials).  
  • School Ambassadors  
  • Specialist trained staff supporting individuals, groups and classes.
