Science teaching at Yohden Primary School aims to give all children a strong understanding of the world around them whilst acquiring specific skills and knowledge to help them think scientifically, to gain an understanding of scientific processes and also an understanding of the uses and implications of Science, today and for the future.
The main focus is that of developing scientific enquiry skills which are taught throughout and within its own unit. This enables the children to develop their investigative skills; observing, questioning, fair testing, predicting, measuring, recording, evaluating and concluding in a variety of lessons.
They develop their understanding of scientific ideas, by using different types of enquiry to answer their own questions, including observing changes over a period of time, noticing patterns, grouping and classifying things, carrying out simple comparative tests and finding things out using secondary sources of information.
By the time our children leave Yohden Primary they will have the ability to ask questions, be able to carry out simple practical investigations, use equipment safely, cooperate with others, have an enquiring mind, build arguments and explain concepts confidently.
