Class and teacher
My name is Mrs Mitchell and I teach Year 5.
This term I will be teaching spellings, handwriting, reading English, Maths, RE, French, Geography, PE, Science and Computing.
Miss Brown is in our class to support our learning.
On an Wednesday afternoon, Miss Brown is my PPA cover, and she teaches PSHE and Art.
We have ukulele lesson on a Thursday morning which is taught by Durham Music Services.
Which yard and start times?
Year 5 enter and leave the school using the KS2 yard and start at 8.50am.
We finish our learning at 3.15pm
At lunchtime, we go out to play at 12:30pm and eat our lunch in the hall with Year 6 at 1.45pm. We then go back out to play until 1:30, when we return to our classroom ready to learn.
Our lunchtime supervisors are Mrs Jones and Mrs Hough.
On a Monday we go swimming at 10:30 and on a Thursday we have our PE lesson.
When swimming children must remove their earrings and wear a swimming hat. If they have a verruca, they must wear a swim sock.
We wear blue/black shorts or trousers, a white t-shirt and trainers.
Earrings need to be removed for safety or covered with tape.
We need to complete 30 minutes of Lexia and Times Table Rockstars to help us with our learning. This should be completed independently with minimal support and supervision. We are given spellings on a Monday which should be practised, and activities completed by Friday that week. Sometimes we may need adult support to help us practise and to test that we have learned our spellings.
Reading is important and we must read at least 3 times per week at home with an adult. Adults need to write about how we read e.g was there a word we were stuck on, did we read fluently, did we understand the meaning of vocabulary, and could we answer questions about events and characters?
We bring reading books into school every day to help us with our reading.
