My name is Mrs Metcalf and I teach in Reception.
Mrs Harrison is in our class to support our learning.
Which yard and start times?
Reception enter and leave the school using the KS1 yard and start at 8.50am.
We finish our learning at 3.10pm
At lunchtime, we eat our lunch in the hall at 12.30pm we go out to play with Year 1 and 2. We go back into class for our learning at 1pm.
Our lunchtime supervisors are Mrs Brown and Mrs Smith.
Our PE day is on a Friday.
We wear blue/black shorts or trousers, a white t-shirt and trainers.
Earrings need to be removed for safety or covered with tape.
In Reception we introduce home learning across the year.
We begin with sending reading books home after the Autumn half term.
Reading is important and we must read at least 3 times per week at home with an adult. Adults need to write about how we read e.g was there a word we were stuck on, did we read fluently, did we understand the meaning of vocabulary, and could we answer questions about events and characters?
We bring reading books into school every day to help us with our reading.
After Christmas we begin Lexia (an online reading programme). We need to complete 20 minutes of Lexia a week. This should be completed independently with minimal support and supervision.
We are given spellings on a Monday which should be practised, and spelling tests are completed the following Monday. Sometimes we may need adult support to help us practise and to test that we have learned our spellings.
