Year 3

Welcome to Year 3

Our class teacher is Mrs Lowery. Please view what we have been learning about in our IPC Topics at the bottom of this page. Also, take a further look in to our subject areas or view our long term curriculum plans by visiting the curriculum section of our website.

General information for Parents and Carers

PE
In year three we do P.E every Monday and Wednesday Friday . All children will provided with a PE kit. Children are required to bring in PE shoes which will stay in school. Children with longer hair should have this tied back, and all jewellery should be removed in the interests of safety. If there is any reason why the child is unable to take part in the lesson, the class teacher should be informed as soon as possible, preferably in writing.

Swimming
Year three go swimming every Wednesday morning after morning break. Children must remember to bring their swimming kit to school every week. The correct swimming kit consists of; a swimming costume or trunks, a towel and a swimming hat. Children may bring goggles if they wish.

Spellings
New spellings rules are learnt in class and given out at the start of each week and children are given a spelling test at the end of the week to see if children have learnt the rule. Please practice spellings at home with your child.

Home Learning
Home Learning will be given out on Friday’s for literacy, topic and/or numeracy, depending on the work covered in class that week. Usually homework should be returned the following Wednesday. A note will always be sent home informing parents of the homework tasks and the date that it should be returned. It is very important that home learning is completed and handed in on time as the work is always designed to support your child’s learning.

Mental Maths
In year three we are very keen to learn our tables! Please practice with your child as often as possible, especially the four and eight times tables.

Reading
It is very important that your child is reading at home at least three times per week and that their reading record is signed. Reading logs are checked each morning by the class teacher. Children are encouraged to choose a variety of genres including fiction and non-fiction books.

Classroom Jobs
In year three children take responsibility for keeping their classroom safe, tidy and enjoyable to work in. We swap jobs every two weeks and children are encouraged to ‘apply’ for the job they wish to do.
