Welcome to Reception
Our class teacher is Mrs Metcalf. Reception is part of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and is based on seven areas of learning.
We aim to give our children the best possible start at school. Our reception classroom follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) which ensures children learn and develop well in school.
There are seven areas of learning and development.
Communication and language
Personal, social and emotional development
Understanding the world
Expressive arts and design
We consider the needs and interests of every child and plan accordingly through a range of play, exploration, active learning and creative and thinking critically. EYFS uses a topic based approach to teaching which encompasses the seven areas of learning and development.
Upon starting the school the children follow the DFE Letters and Sounds programme using support material from the Jolly Phonics scheme. Children are taught in a daily lesson to hear and blend sounds in words and our early reading books are heavily phonics based. In order to develop variety for the reader we use a number of reading book schemes in both fiction and non-fiction.
