Yohden Primary School has very strong links with our local church and Father McNeil. St Mary’s Church is a short walk from school and children visit regularly for curriculum enrichment and to support events running in their local community.
As a school we feel it is important that children feel a part of their community and understand ways in which they can support the people living there.
Celebrating 100 years
We were delighted to be a part of the celebrations when St Mary’s celebrated their centenary anniversary.
Year 1 visited St. Mary’s Church as part of their R.E topic. Father McNeil gave them a tour of the church, pointing out the features and symbols of a Christian church and their religious importance. Children were given time to explore the church and ask questions. In addition to this Father McNeil has been in school to visit Year 2 pupils to discuss the bible. We are very lucky that Father McNeil will be coming in to school to deliver some assemblies every term.
Christmas Carol Service
Children visit St Mary’s every year at Christmas for our annual carol service. This is an event parents, staff and children look forward to and we are always given a warm welcome by Father McNeil.
Harvest Festival Food Donations
Every year children at Yohden Primary School perform a Harvest Festival show for parents. During this time we ask that children and parents make food donations to help support our project whereby we distribute food parcels to elderly residents living in our community. This project was a huge success last year and we would like to thank parents for their kind donations.
